In Canada, the smalles monetary bill is a $5. There are the usual coins, as well as $1 and $2 coins (Called Loonies and Toonies, but that's another story). Anyway, the handful of "loose change" ended up being like eight bucks, which I didn't realize until I tried to buy some coffee later on.
